JEF United Ichihara Chiba, commonly known as JEF United Chiba, is a professional soccer club with Chiba City and Ichihara City of Chiba Prefecture as its two hometowns.

First formed in 1946 as the Furukawa Electric Soccer Club, it is the only team in Japan that has always played in the top league (JSL and J1) without getting relegated.

Team colors

  • Yellow - "Nanohana yellow," or the color of rape blossoms, the prefecture’s unofficial flower
  • Green - Represents JR East
  • Red - Represents Furukawa Electric
  • Navy Blue (uniform color) - Represents the ocean bordering Chiba, the Ichihara City flag, and the Chiba City communication mark

Team mascots

  • Akita dog brothers Jeffy (#2) and Unity (#9)

Team motto / "catch phrase"

  • WIN BY ALL

Team song

  • "FIGHT FOR A WIN" by THE PACIFISTS (Sony Records)

Supporter song

  • "Over" by Ryota Mitsunaga (Day by Day - Pony Canyon)
    The artist is a former JEF United Youth team player, and the song is played as the departure bell at JR Soga Station

Team History:

  • 1946
    Formed as the Furukawa Electric Soccer Club.
  • 1991
    Renamed "JEF United" to participate in the Professional Soccer League. JEF stands for JR East Furukawa, because JR East "united"with Furukawa Electric to sponsor the team.
  • 1992
    The team hometown becomes Ichihara City, Chiba.
  • 1993
    The J-League is formed.
  • 1998
    Team places 2nd in the J-League Yamazaki Nabisco Cup.
  • 2001
    Team places 2nd in the first stage of the J1 League.
  • 2003
    Chiba City joins as a hometown Team places 2nd in the second stage of the J1 League.
  • 2004
    Renamed "JEF United Ichihara Chiba," with the nickname "JEF United Chiba."Team places 2nd in the second stage of the J1 League.
  • 2005
    Champions of the J-League Yamazaki Nabisco Cup. Fukuda Denshi Arena is built, and becomes the team’s home stadium.
  • 2006
    Coach Ivica Osim (2003-2006) leaves to coach the national team, and is succeeded by his son Amar Osim. Champions of the J-League Yamazaki Nabisco Cup.
  • 2008
    Coach Amar Osim is replaced with Coach Josip Kuze of Croatia.
  • 2008
    Coach Josip Kuze is replaced mid-season by Coach Alex Miller from Liverpool FC
