Asunción

A Beautiful Spanish-Style Ancient City, Lush with Subtropical Plants

The capital of the Republic of Paraguay in Central America, Asunción is a beautiful Spanish-style ancient city that is lush with subtropical plants.

Facing the eastern bank of the Paraguay River, the city is a center for politics, economics, and culture and serves as a gateway to other countries via land, water, and air. With the older parts of the city along the river and the newer areas spreading out in the hilly eastern region, 15% of the total population of Paraguay is centered in this city of commerce and industry, which is home to well-developed food and textile industries against a background of fertile farmland.

In the older areas of the city, which include the Parliament building and presidential palace, there are still cathedrals and theaters that preserve the atmosphere of colonial times.
