Crime & Disaster Prevention

110 & 119 | Evacuation Sites in Chiba City | Disaster Prevention Guidebook for Foreigners

110 & 119

110

Please dial 110 in case of a crime or accident.

Dial 110 to call the police immediately if you fall victim to a crime such as a theft or assault, or if you are involved in a traffic accident.

Information to be given:

  1. What happened (purse-snatching, traffic accident, fight, etc.)
  2. When and where (time, place, and nearby landmarks)
  3. Explanation of the situation (extent of damage, injuries, etc.)
  4. Characteristics of the suspect(s) (number of persons involved, description of face, clothing, etc.)
  5. Name, address, telephone number, etc.

Police Boxes

In Japan, police officers are stationed at outposts called 'koban' that are located on street corners, etc. These officers perform a variety of services for residents, including local patrols, crime prevention, and providing directions. If you encounter any problems, please do not hesitate to visit a police box.

Traffic Accidents

If you are involved in even a small traffic accident, please dial 110, or report to a nearby police box or police station. Make sure to record the other party's name, address, telephone number, driver's license number, and license plate number. If you have been hit yourself or suffered any injury, make sure that you are examined at a hospital, even if the injuries seem minor.

119

Dial 119 to call a fire truck or an ambulance in case of fire, injury, or sudden illness.

The Fire Department takes calls 24 hours a day and has both fire trucks and ambulances. When you call, give them the following information:

  1. Indicate whether there is a fire or some other emergency calmly and clearly.
  2. Report the location (make note of any landmarks nearby).
  3. Give your name and telephone number.

Safety Guidebook

The Safety Guidebook was compiled in order to provide guidance for protecting residents' lives in the event of earthquakes and disasters. The guidebook is available on the Fire Bureau website.

Evacuation Sites in Chiba City

There are 333 emergency evacuation sites and shelters, 38 broad-area emergency evacuation sites, and 52 tsunami evacuation buildings in Chiba City that can be used to protect residents' lives during disasters such as earthquakes.

You can find a more detailed explanation of the types of emergency evacuation sites and a list of the ones in Chiba City here.

For more details, contact the Crisis Management Division (TEL 043-245-5151).
