Services

Prefectural and municipal governments are classified as local authorities. The prefectural government regulates communication with the national government and provides services that pertain to the prefecture as a whole, while municipalities provide the services that are most directly connected to the daily lives of the local population.

In order to create a city that is pleasant to live in, the City of Chiba provides a broad variety of public services, such as social welfare, education, and public health.

International Exchange

Chiba City has sister/friendship city relations with seven cities: Asunción (Paraguay), Houston (United States), Montreux (Switzerland), North Vancouver (Canada), Quezon City (Philippines), Tianjin (China), and Wujiang District, Suzhou (China). The city also actively promotes international exchange in such fields as economics, culture, and sports through exchanges and international events with cities around the world.

Ward Offices

There are six wards in Chiba City (Chuo, Hanamigawa, Inage, Midori, Mihama, and Wakaba), and a ward office (kuyakusho) has been established in each ward.

Services

Ward offices handle a majority of daily community services such as resident registration, family registration, pension, taxes, and social welfare.

In addition to these administrative services, ward offices collaborate closely with municipal organizations that have regional jurisdiction, such as civil engineering, sanitation, and parks and recreation departments, and related administrative organizations in order to promote comprehensive governmental services in their various districts.

Each ward has civic centers (shimin sentaa) that handle a part of the services provided at the ward office. You should familiarize yourself with the locations of the centers and the services they provide.

City Hall & Ward Office Holidays

City Hall, ward offices, and civic centers are closed Saturday, Sunday, on national holidays, and during year-end/New Year. Certain ward office counters will be open during the morning of every second Sunday of the month. However, libraries and cultural and sports facilities may be closed on different days, so please be sure to check before going to these facilities.
