Houston

The Largest Petroleum and Energy Industry Hub in the US, Known as the “Energy Capital of the World”

Houston is located in southeast Texas, 80km along a canal from the Gulf of Mexico. Home to the Port of Houston, which is the 3rd-ranked international port by freight volume in the US, Houston is the largest city in Texas and the 4th-most populous city in the country.

The city’s history began in 1836, when the Texas Republic gained independence from Mexico and the city was named after General Sam Houston.

Its industries have recently diversified from the energy and petrochemical industries to include the IT, medical service, and aerospace industries. The city is also known for the NASA Johnson Space Center and its space shuttle program.
